Today’s example is not a typical call into us (thankfully) but shows, at the end of the day, it’s a job that involves people contact. Sometimes someone somewhere may be having a bad day…
The phone goes..
ME: “Good morning, Jump IT Recruitment, how can I help you?”
A rather brusque male voice says, ‘I’m looking for work?’
As we get about 10-20 calls each day from candidates asking for general office, warehouse work, basically jobs we don’t deal with, I have honed my answering gambit and replied:
ME: “OK sir, you are through to Jump IT Recruitment Solutions Limited we only deal with IT jobs. Do you have IT experience?”
HIM: ‘I’ve used Microsoft Office’
ME: “OK, the type of jobs we tend to get are software developers, product managers, and cloud engineers. Quite technical IT-based roles?”
HIM. ‘I have an HNC course in electrical programming.’
ME: “To be honest, I don’t think we may be best placed to help you. Where do you live? I may be able to suggest another recruiter who can help?”
HIM: ‘I am homeless, so I will go anywhere’
ME: “OK, it’s more about the type of job or work you are after”
HIM. ‘Are you calling me incompetent?’
ME: “No, all I was saying is…”
HIM: Interupts me trying to explain my answer to say loudly ‘F@**you, you XXXX’ and puts the phone down.
Thank you.
