You get a job offer but want to push for more money – what do you do?

If you’ve used a recruiter in the process, then hopefully they will have a good relationship with that client or hiring manager and will know already what might be possible.

Not used a recruiter and gone direct?

Well, remember to do some research on your skillset, the job market and salary levels first of all.

Be prepared to compromise on your expectations.

It isn’t a confrontation or argument but a negotiation.

Try to give an open, reasoned account of why you need/want more money

I always suggest it is probably worth asking if there is any ‘flexibility’ on the salary rather than having a hard and fast figure with a take it or leave it attitude.

If you offer an ultimatum, it will generally only end one way.

Do consider the whole package and potential training/opportunity.

For us at Jump IT, we always clarify salary levels, expectations, and make our clients aware BEFORE the interview process starts.

Definitely results in little /few issues at the offer stage for both parties
