Whenever I look back over my career, I donโt have regrets, but there were missed opportunities. For example.
1. I wish I had been allowed early in my career to visit every client I engaged with (in the 1990s, it was relatively easy and pain-free to directly call IT Directors/hiring managers at every financial institution and FTSE 250 company via their landline!)
2. I should have listened to a customer about calling them less frequently (my boss insisted I ignore their request. The well-known tech company concerned grew and grew and grew, and we missed a major opportunity).
There are probably other opportunities if I put my mind to it, but these are the biggest ones missed.
However, throughout my career, I have always cared about who I place with someone, be it a junior person or an IT Director/CTO level candidate.
I/We have never knowingly or intentionally placed someone with poor references or likely issues that would prevent them from performing their job well. We never provide candidates we feel unsure of or have red flags about.
It’s something I have prided myself on, strived to achieve and stayed true to (probably at great personal cost as I would have placed a few more people if less fussy).
I havenโt changed in this approach over 30 years later. It’s something we care about deeply at Jump IT Recruitment Solutions Limited
To us, any client we work with gets the best possible fit and the best available candidate.
I hope your current recruiter does care about who they place with, but if not, please get in touch if you want to work with an ethical recruiter, who genuinely wants you to recruit the best person for your team or business.
