Check your tech!

One simple piece of interview advice for you.

If you have an imminent Teams, Zoom or phone call for a job interview.

Always check in advance if the tech works.

We have all experienced this at some point – For me, it wasn’t quite a Wi-Fi fail, but I got a phone call whilst being interviewed on Channel 5, which cut the video feed.

I have also had calls with sound issues and never realised till a good client pointed it out to me.

If you have an interview and will be taking it from your car at lunchtime, check it’s not a Wi-Fi black spot in advance.

For a Teams or Zoom call, check that the Wi-Fi works at least 15 minutes in advance.

It is always good to warn a potential employer if you are making that Teams call from a non-secure Wi-Fi spot and pass them your phone number as backup.

OK, you will likely get a second chance, but if it’s a tech role and your tech doesn’t work correctly, it could be the difference between getting a job or not.

Good luck.
