Letโs talk about one of the most contentious things in recruitmentโฆ.
This is the age-old question that is asked about recruiters and recruitment.
In an ideal world, it would be great to reply to every single application
I don’t speak for everyone, but here are my thoughts on the matter.
Time.
To complement reaching out to our network, we do/will advertise a role to raise awareness.
Personally, I could spend the whole of my working week and non-working week if I replied to every CV application we get. Relevant or not.
I try, but I’m far from perfect.
90% of the applications we get ignore key needs for that job.
For example. If I stipulated a need for a candidate to be UK-based and within a commute of a location. Over 25% of applications will not be living in the UK (based on our findings for our roles).
If we say, โIt is essential to have X skill and not Y skillsโ About 40% of applications will not have the skill required for the role, but the one your client doesnโt need.
I am not disagreeing with this argument at all. The easy answer would be to just automate but that in itself isnโt satisfactory to many.
Also, so many CVs are automatically sent through, often not by the candidate but by a job board.
It is hard to identify genuine job applications from those sent automatically. We also receive applications via job boards we donโt use!! (This in itself makes it difficult to take a job down)
If you feel you are relevant to a role, I would always suggest / recommend a follow up with the recruiter / company.
This shows you made the application and that you feel you have relevance.
Candidates that call me always get my time, regardless if relevant. I often give them some tips and job-hunting advice to help.
What are your thoughts on the subject? Do you just accept that this happens as standard?
