You can probably tell from a lack of posts that I havenโt been at work.
1st time back in Paris in 20 years, and I’ve got to say, the first time I’ve enjoyed it. Probably because we werenโt there for tourist sites and spent our time experiencing some lesser populated sites (cemetery where Jim Morrison, Edith Piaf were buried as well as the wonderful Gehry Partners, LLP designed Fondation Louis Vuitton building with an exhibition of David Hockney paintings.
Little situations always arise that make me think, โWhy would you do that?โ
In Montmartre, we wanted to stop for a quick drink. The sunny terrace of a bar opposite a market was full, but luckily, the whole of the inside of the bar/restaurant was empty and offered equally great views of the market.
โCan we have a quick drink?โ No problem, came the reply. ‘OK great, we will sit there by the open window’ I said (obviously in French/broken French)
โNOโ, came the reply. That is a table for 4. Sit over there at a table for 2 (which was away from the window).
Slightly taken aback, I said, โBut there is no one else in the entire bar or restaurant?โ
โYou need to sit where there’s a table for 2โ
Result, we walked out muttering under our breath and thinking how blimming stupid. We could have had a drink, decided to eat, but hey ho. Stick to the customer last policy.
I understand it isnโt always easy to fulfil your customers’ every need or whim, but in recruitment and hospitality, you depend on clients to use you, review you and come back again.
